America's Greatest Need

America's Greatest Need

By Dan Bailey

Today in America there seems to be a shortage of many things. Food is so high that the poor man or even the average citizen stands with amazement as the prices go higher and higher. There is a need in America for clean water. Our beautiful rivers have long since been polluted by the mammoth industrial plants. There is a great need in America for law and order. It is regretful to say that even our own educational system has helped to breed chaos and disruption. Yes, we in America need many things.

We are living in an age of DNA, space flights, cyberknife surgeries, wireless communication, and great scientific progress. We need cars for travel, homes to live in, and clothing for our bodies. But what is the answer to the question, "What is America's greatest need?" Would you reply that it is food, clean water, law and order, or more scientific discoveries?

Mankind has a greater need than all of those things. America needs to come back to the greatest book that has ever written: the Bible. She needs to stay up at night and read from its sacred pages and then pray for the wisdom that can only come from God. She needs to hear simple Bible sermons on heaven, hell, life, death, the resurrection, the church, Christ, God, and each individual's responsibility to obey God. She needs to put away false philosophy, and come back to the words of eternal life. Voltaire, an enemy of Christ, once said that the Bible would not be found by the end of his century. Mr. Voltaire died in 1778, but the Bible still remains. Thomas Paine said in the same century that in fifty years the Bible would only be found in museums. Yet today the Bible still stands!

"But the word of the Lord endureth forever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you" (1 Peter 1:25). The Bible has been translated in over two thousand different languages or dialects, and is the world's best seller. No man has ever written a book to equal or surpass its glorious pages. When was the last time that you really studied to see what God would have you to do? The only book from God that man has is the Bible. Yet, the majority of people have failed to read and to follow it. Let us read from it every day and let us obey God. That is America's greatest need!
