What does it mean to be a disciple? What does the ideal disciple look like? Once we learn this from Scripture, we can begin growing towards that ideal. We are currently studying this topic and below is an overview of what we have noticed so far in our studies.

A Disciple is:
1. A teacher, both in classes and in personal Bible studies (Matthew 28:19-20)
2. An example, both inside and outside the church (Matthew 5:13-16; 1 Timothy 4:12)
3. Accessible to help those in need (Galatians 6:2, 10)
4. A giver of time, aid, and finances (2 Corinthians 8:3-5)
5. A listener (James 5:16; 1:19; Galatians 6:2)
6. Faithful in attendance (Hebrews 10:25)
7. Participant in worship (Matthew 4:10; John 4:23-24)
8. Service-oriented (serving in worship, serving other Christians, and serving neighbors) (John 13:14-15)
9. Soul-seeker
10. Devoted to personal Bible study and prayer
11. An active part of fellowship in the family of God
12. Zealous for Christ
13. Connected with the community
14. Bearing the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)
15. Abiding in the Word (John 8:4)
16. Loving our neighbors (Matthew 22:39; Romans 13:8-9)
17. Do good to enemies (Romans 12:20)
18. Remain true to Scripture (Galatians 1:6-9)
19. Defend Scripture (1 Peter 3:15; Jude 3)
20. Peaceable (Romans 12:18)
21. Examine one's self (2 Corinthians 13:5)
22. Exercise self-restraint (1 Thessalonians 5:22; Ephesians 4:26)
23. Control thoughts (Proverbs 23:7; Philippians 4:8)
24. Not worried about past or anxious about future (Philippians 3:13-14; Matthew 6:25-34)
25. Honoring father and mother (Ephesians 6:1-3)
26. Care for one another (Philippians 2:4; Galatians 6:2; Romans 12:15; Matthew 7:12)
27. Forgive others (Matthew 6:12)
28. Not a busybody (1 Peter 4:15)
29. Be hospitable (Romans 12:13)
30. Joyous (Acts 8:36-39)
31. Warns the unruly (1 Thessalonians 5:14; Galatians 6:1; James 5:19-20)
