Philippines Mission Trip 2009

DAY 10, APRIL 2, 2009
This morning we had chapel and it was a delightful 80 degrees. Fernando Canlas, one of the students spoke, and two years ago he could speak no English but delivered his final sermon in perfect English and it was a powerful message, Now it is 2 PM and about 95.  The work on Moultrie Hall, a multi-purpose building that will serve as the chapel and church building has ground to a halt.  The floor and stage have been poured but no tin for the roof yet, so tomorrow''s graduation will be held in the sub tropical sun.  Perhaps I will come home with a farmer''s tan after all.....
Today I went with Roger Bernadino to Binmaley, a barangy near Linguyan, located on the South China Sea.  We studied with 2 near college age students, an older couple, a young mother who was feeding her baby, and a lady about 40.  They were very interested and had a number of very questions.  There is not a congregation close so Roger will go back next week and probably baptize several of them and establish a congregation there.  But another problem, everytime the work grows we are short another preacher for a congregation.
There are 2 new wonderful students in school but we will have dorm space for 20 in the fall.  Recruiting students is not a problem but they do not pay enough to even cover their food costs, so every student we find means we must generate another $200 per month, but, that is a wonderful problem to have.  Too many people wanting to hear the gospel just motivates me to want to work harder to help provide preachers for those that want to hear.
Currently Laurie is teaching a Bible class with my mother just outside and they are working on the books of the Bible...in English.
At 3 PM we will have gradaution practice and then return to the hotel to rest and get ready for the first PRC graduation on Friday at 4 PM.  Our prayer is that the rains will hold off. We have bought a pig to be roasted and have a very large party /dinner planned for the graduates and their family tomorrow.
Hope you have a great day and night.
In Christ,
Don
