Handrails to Heaven

Handrails to Heaven

Brent Smith

In the past couple of weeks several improvements have been made to the furnishings of the auditorium. Of these improvements, the steps leading up to the pulpit have been widened and handrails have been installed to help those who have difficulty climbing the steps. Hopefully, this will allow some who have been afraid to make the climb to participate once more in leading roles and at the same time prevent someone from falling.

The steps to heaven can sometimes be difficult, that difficulty being enhanced at times for some individuals because of their own weaknesses. There is the enticement to give up, to not attempt the ascent, and there is the danger of falling for those who climb. Considering the "one another" passages of the Bible, aren’t we as brothers and sisters in Christ to be handrails for one another, as we climb together?

Here are just a few of the many passages that encourage us to help each other go to heaven: Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ (Gal. 6.2). We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves (Rom. 15.1). members should have the same care one for another (I Cor. 12.25). by love serve one another (Gal. 5.13). be kind one to another, tenderhearted (Eph. 4.32). edify one another (I Thess. 5.11). exhort one another daily (Heb. 3.13). pray one for another (James 5.16).

Is anybody leaning on you? Can they?
